I absolutely loathe one way streets. Especially in downtown areas. Chicago, for example. Every other street is a one way. Make one wrong turn and you'll spend the next 2 hours trying to figure out where you are and how to get back to where you need to be. I've never understood the reason for One Way streets and google/wikipedia was of little help.
ACHD is hoping to convert 5th and 6th streets downtown into two way streets. Apparently police prefer two way streets due to the safety they offer and it lessens the likelihood someone will go the wrong way. Which, I can tell you happens at least 3 times a week on 16th Street, just north of State.
After the successful conversions of 3rd, 4th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and Jefferson streets from one-ways to two-ways, ACHD is confident the 5th and 6th street conversions will be successful as well.
